About

The Greenwood House Renovation Project will usher in significant improvements to the dormitory overlooking the Canaan Street Lake, including the addition of a second faculty apartment and the establishment of related endowment funds. In addition to supporting these initiatives, your gift to the Greenwood project honors Penny Peck H’17, honorary alumna and former faculty member at Cardigan Mountain School.

In 1973, Greenwood House was gifted to Cardigan by Charles and Dorothy Greenwood Banks in memory of Penny’s grandfather, the Honorable Ernest Greenwood. Mr. Greenwood was an educator, humanitarian, and sportsman who had served as headmaster of the Dwight School and as a United States Senator from New York. After the dorm’s construction, the first family to live in Greenwood House were the Pecks: Penny, husband and fellow faculty member Schuyler ’63, and children Nikki and Jason.

Penny was house mother to generations of Cardigan boys during the 1970s and 1980s, and the Pecks have remained staunch supporters of the School in the ensuing decades. Today, Penny embodies Cardigan’s Core Values as she fights a courageous battle against cancer. It is typical of both Penny’s dedication to the field of education and her demonstrated love for the boys that she and Schuyler would choose this moment to champion a project that benefits Cardigan students.
